Welcome to BATSBadminton.co.uk

Is there anyone out there with a racket to dust off? We are a friendly club, very happy to welcome new members. Whether you want to play socially or be part of a team, we can help. We have close contact with several clubs in the area and can find the perfect club for you if we don't fit the bill.

BATS club plays at a reasonably high level but we also encourage a number of up and coming youngsters who have come through our junior sections along with some relative beginners with "attitude!" not to mention a couple of oldies to keep the young ones fit!!!

A number of our players are playing/have played for the Devon Senior and Junior County, and Cornwall Senior County teams.

BATS badminton club is a social badminton club playing on a Thursday night with a junior section being formally coached on Monday evenings during term time. Several members of the club are qualified coaches and are happy to give advice etc if asked.

Devon Community Foundation Local Network Fund

We are thrilled to announce that our application for a grant from the Devon Community Foundation Local Network Fund has been successful.

BATS Badminton club are now the proud recipients of:
A Sony DVD Camcorder & Tripod Stand
A Projector
A Laptop
All all the rest of the goodies go with these.

We will also be able to CRB check up to 5 more volunteers totally free of charge!!!

The Juniors have been having a whale of a time with the camera filming each other during their coaching sessions.

Please Note: To ensure the safety and privacy of our members, all of the relevant child protection procedures are in place and these can be found on this website

Accreditation

Accreditation

October 2007 our Silver Club status was updated to "Premier Club" and both Badminton England and Sport England have extended the accreditation to 2010.

July 2005. BATS Senior and BATS Junior Badminton Clubs are very proud to announce that they have achieved the Badminton England Silver Club and Sport England Club Mark Accreditation.

The certificates were presented by John Edwards, the Badminton England South West Regional Development Officer, who commended the work done by Heather Cooper and her coaching team, all of whom are volunteers.

To gain the awards Heather and the other coaches of BATS BC, Alan Berry and Julian Cooper have put together a portfolio and have attended courses and workshops on all aspects of badminton as well as the welfare of it's players including First Aid, Child Welfare and Protection, Sports Equity and Club Management and have undergone CRB checks.

Juniors

Juniors

We are lucky enough to have 3 coaches and 5 assistant coaches in the club.

We run a class in Bere Alston Community Hall (Primary School) on a Monday evening and another at Horrabridge School on Wednesdays. (The Wednesday club is run under the umbrella of Horrabridge Badminton Club).

The youngsters work towards nationally recognised certificates and we have a presentation evening at the end of each season.

Each February we encourage all the children to enter the "Ellis Tournament" organised by the Plymouth & District League and have "brought home" plenty of trophies over the years, though, of course, enjoyment of the day is the name of the game.

A number of our juniors have gone on to play in the county squads, both junior and senior, and 6 of them have qualified as coaches in their own right. Great for the CV.

Currently there are 50+ juniors in the 2 clubs with ages ranging from 7 to 16.
