Certificates were presented at this years Presentation Evening to the BATS juniors. They all worked very hard over the year and were presented with certificates representing their individual levels of merit.

Certificates are not about who can win. Quality of stroke, tactical and technical awareness, safety for self and others, laws of badminton, good sportsmanship, feeding, scoring, putting out equipment etc are all part of the curriculum.

Stage 1; Anton David, Emma Piper and Sam McDonald.
Stage 2, Level 1; Adam Piper, Celine Conley, Emily Wooldridge, Katie, Brown, Ryan Arnold and Vicky Fethney.
Stage 2, Level 2; Celine Conley and Heather Wright.
Stage 2, Level 3; Antony Dennett and Megan Harmsworth.
Stage 3, Level 1; Charlie Fethney,
Stage 3, Level 2; Francesca Morton and James David.
Stage 3, Level 3; Francesca Morton, Christopher Gardiner,David Wright, James David and Rachael Williams.

Several juniors also attained "Officialls Awards". To attain these they were required, among other things, to organize and run internal tournaments - some with handicapping.

PLAYERS OF THE YEAR were presented with engraved glass trophies.

Emma and James were chosen because they have been conscientious and determined in their efforts to improve their play and have behaved in an exemplary and helpful manner towards others.

Several players were congratulated on their successes at the Plymouth and District Junior and Senior Tournaments - full reports on these can be found elsewhere on this website.

Christopher, David, Francesca, James and Rachael are all to be commended for having played matches in the senior league. They have umpired these games and written match reports.

Special thanks were given to all the parents for their support and commitment, to Jane Williams for her liaison with the school and sending out the flyers each term, to Francesca Morton who is the junior representative on the BATS senior club committee and to Julian Cooper who is the club's Child Welfare Officer and who gives the technical advice and support for our equipment and hosts the website.

On display, were all the goodies purchased with the our grant money from the Devon Community Foundation.

2008 Ellis Junior Tournament Report

BATS and Horrabridge juniors did very well in this years Plymouth and District Ellis (Junior) tournament held in the Mayflower centre.

U11 Girls singles was won by Tess Ashen (Horrabridge)

Runner up was Heather Wright (BATS)

U11 Girls doubles was won by Tess Ashen and Emily Wooldridge (BATS)

Runners up were Heather Wright and Celine Conley (BATS)

Vicky Fethney (BATS), age 8 did excellently in her very first tournament. She also entered
the doubles with Sophy (Horrabridge).

U11 Boys singles; Charlie Fethney won his group and was fiinally knocked out in the semi
finals.
U11 boys doubles runners up were Charlie Fethney (BATS) and David Northey (Horrabridge)

Adam Piper (BATS) and Tom Cooper (Horrabridge) both aged 8, did exceptionally well in their first tournament. They both entered the singles and played together in the doubles.

U14 Boys singles runner up was Sam Campbell-Hingston (BATS)

U16 girls doubles runners up were Francesca Morton and Helen Haley (from
Builders badminton club). They got together after being adversaries in a senior league
match, just a month before this tournament.

U18 girls doubles runners up were Rachael Williams and Abi Maunder.

Numerous other club members entered at U11, U14, U16 and U18 level and did very well within their groups.

The mixed event only at U18 level saw Sam Cambell-Hingston aged 12 and partner Claire Fraser (Horrabridge) the same age make a very good account of themselves.

BATS and sister club Horrabridge enjoyed the following massive successes at the annual Plymouth and District Ellis Junior Tournament held at the Mayflower centre in Plymouth on Sunday 11th Feb 2007

Other entrants: Rebecca Ward, Rebecca Elridge, Katie MacNaughton, Emma Northey, Olivia Hodge, Sam Campbell-Hingston, Sam Harmsworth, John Tailyour, Mark Henderson, Isaac Morris , Michael Brown, James David, Kelvin Coker and Kenny Rowe.

All of our entrants came away with their heads held high with the sense of their achievements, many of them were runners up in their groups and all won at least one game.

As their coaches; Alan, Julian and I (Heather) would like to congratulate them, not just on their successes, which of course we are delighted with, but their individual attainments, sportsmanship and good manners which were remarked upon on the day.

"We are very proud of you all".

2007 BATS Junior Annual Presentation Evening Report

In May 2007 our annual round - up of the years activities took place and Badminton England sanctiioned atttainment certificates were presented in front of the parents.

Trophies, awards and certificates were presented by Julian Cooper (our Child Protection Officer);

This years tournament was run, umpired and adjudicated by David Wright and Christopher Gardiner who, by doing this, earned their "Bronze Official" certificates. They also took part.

Heather Wright was awarded the PLAYER OF THE YEAR trophy in the beginners junior section for her improvement. cheerful disposition and dedication to learning and her amazing achievent at the Ellis tournament in February, having only taken up the sport in the December.

Rachael Williams was awarded the PLAYER OF THE YEAR trophy in the advanced junior section for her overall attitude, sportsmanship, safety awareness, good manners and contribution to the game within the club, at local tournaments and in the senior club and league. Congratulatios Rachael, you are a credit to the club, yourself and your family.
Rachael also gained a "Silver Officials" certificate by running a junior mini - tournament and by umpiring and scoring several senior league matches in which she took part and writing the match reports.

Antony Dennett was awarded the ANNUAL EFFORT/SPORTSMANSHIP trophy. He always tries his best, is always helpful, kind and co-operative and has a keen sense of safety.

Only one pair from BATS Juniors entered this year - but what a pair!
David Wright and James David played out of their skins and took the U17 boys doubles title, Their experience playing in the senior league this year really paid off as they took out the Cornwall County seeded pairs.

2006 BATS Juniors - Annual Presentation

Our BATS JUNIORS ANNUAL PRESENTATION took place 22nd May 2006. All children put in a lot of effort this year and made huge improvements, every one gained a certificate.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR was DAVID WRIGHT for consistent improvement, effort, safety awareness and consideration for others. He was promoted as a part time member to BATS seniors and improved so much that he is now a full time member. He also represented BATS seniors in the P&D League and, in the Ellis (Plymouth & District) Junior Tournament held in February gained a very creditable place in the semi final.

Rachael Williams has played in the senior club all year and has played in the senior league all season and was part of the Beckly (knockout mixed) Cup team which came runner up.

Sam Cambell-Hingston and Francesca Morton have gained a part time entry into the senior club and Francesca has also played a senior team match.
