BATS Achieve Accreditation

BATS Senior and BATS Junior Badminton Clubs are very proud to announce that they have achieved Badminton England Silver Club and Sport England Club Mark Accreditation which has now been updated to "Badminton England Premier Clubs".

To gain the awards Heather and the other coaches of BATS BC, Alan Berry and Julian Cooper have put together a portfolio and have attended courses and workshops on all aspects of badminton, as well as the welfare of it's players including First Aid, Child Welfare and Protection, Sports Equity and Club Management and have undergone CRB checks.

Gaining Silver Club Status is another step forward for BATS BC, who have been at the forefront of local badminton coaching and play. We run a junior coaching night and an adult club night, where, once the juniors are ready, up and coming players can experience senior badminton at all levels of play.

A number of our juniors have gone on to represent Devon and Cornwall at both senior and junior level and 9 have become coaches in their own right. Having gone from the lowest division in the Plymouth and District League, to being promoted to Division 1, several players have now taken their skills around the country and are playing at various universities and 2 are playing for Berkshire senior county. We now have a new batch coming through, 3 just 12 yrs old who represented us in the senior league this year.

All this from a club started by Heather 18 yrs ago, very informally, for her children. In those days there were 30 plus children on one court in a parish hall. She was joined there 11 yrs ago by Alan, and shortly afterwards moved to a new, purpose built, 2 court hall, (what luxury), later being joined by Julian.

We like to think of ourselves as a true grass roots club.
